Unity Hall, Barneveld early 1900's

Unity Hall in the early 1900's

Unity Hall has earned regional recognition as one of the most handsome, historic and unique live performance spaces in Central New York.  Built in 1896 by the nearby Unitarian Church as a cultural and community center, the Hall thrived for nearly 100 years.  But by the 1980's its use and condition had ebbed to the point that its future was in doubt.

In 1993, local resident George Landecker approached several community-minded friends about forming a non-profit foundation independent of the church to manage Unity Hall.  The church accepted their proposal, and the Unity Hall Foundation was established.  Its mission was straightforward - to save, restore and preserve the sturdy but graceful     and historic building, and to press-on with its intended work. Thanks to their vision and efforts, Unity Hall recovered its magnificent appearance and has come alive again, and he walls of the auditorium are once again alive with powerful music, the spoken word, and a strong sense of community.

Numerous upgrades have been made along the way, including the installation of heating and air conditioning systems, a kitchen with commercial grade appliances, and technical sound and lighting equipment suitable for top-notch performances.  Musicians who playe the Hall consider it a truly special place to perform.  Audience members treasure it too, a fact reflected in the Hall's recognition in the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMY'S) as one of the region's best venues to enjoy live music in.

The Foundation's commitment to providing high quality regional, national and international performances at reasonable prices close-to-home remains strong. Continuing only remains possible with the dedication of its all-volunteer board and volunteers and the on-going support of Unity Hall Members and community-minded sponsors.
