Ms. Deming of Remsen is well-known locally as fine artist, judge and educator and works in transparent watercolor, pastel, and gouache. Among her favorite subjects are the landscape around her and the flowers in her gardens. Ms. Murphy of Barneveld is also a watercolorist but has a growing interest in oils. She paints in plein air and in her studio, and her subjects include still lifes, landscapes and portraits. Ms. VanHatten, also of Barneveld, enjoys painting subjects that reflect where she has traveled. Working with a limited palette, she makes compositional changes to enhance the final painting. People and animals are frequent subjects, as are landscapes and flowers.
All three artists are Signature members of the Central New York Watercolor Society. Brian Herkel, of Adirondack Art & Picture Framing, will handle sales for Ms. Deming’s work; Ms. Murphy and Ms. VanHatten will handle their sales directly.
Pandemic Therapy originated from a shared love of music by Rick Kincaid and Terry Schwaner to enjoy “pickin and singin,” at a critical time during the COVID-19 second wave. Rick, a lifetime resident of the Barneveld and Holland Patent area, is an original organizer of the well-known local group, “Rattlin Bog,” and while Terry is a relative newcomer to our area, he has shared his distinctive voice and guitar at Unity Hall for the past four years. The Junior B Sharp Music Club was established in 1916 for talented music students in the Utica area to augment the musical offerings of the schools and private music teachers and will make available several of its talented performers for the art event.
