New York Amish:
Life in the Plain Communities of the Empire State

Close to 100 people turned out on a Saturday afternoon to learn about the Amish in our area from Dr. Karen M. Johnson-Weiner, a leading authority on the subject.  Dr. Johnson-Weiner, author of New York Amish: Life In The Plain Communities of the Empire State and the chair of the Anthropology Department at the State University of New York in Potsdam, presented a fascinating 90 minute program providing insights into Amish way of life, beliefs and traditions. She also fielded a number of questions from the audience.

The program, a joint presentation of the Unity Hall Foundation, the Barneveld Free Library and the Unitarian Church of Barneveld, was very well received.  We look forward to future presentations of this type by other authorities on a wide range of subjects.
