Colleen Kattau and Some Guys
8pm
Friday, April 20 2012
Unity Hall in Barneveld is very
pleased to welcome Colleeen Kattau & Some Guys on Friday, April 20
at 8pm. Colleen has impressed a lot of impressive people with her
material and performances. We will leave it to them to convey why
her visit to Barneveld is one that should not be missed.
Poignant and
playful performer with a soaring voice and a socio-enviro bent, bi-lingual
too!
"Joe Hill would
be proud. Great singer and organizer at the same time," Pete
Seeger. “Ever
since childhood Kattau has been imbued with a voice that haunts with its
clarity and range”,
Syracuse
New Times.
Colleen Kattau is a
vocalist songwriter and dynamic performer, whose music is described as
“power and beauty steeping in a fine tea.” She’s performed on Amy
Goodman’s Democracy Now, iand recently appeared with Holly Near
in performance with the Syracuse Community Choir. She plays with her
band Colleen Kattau and Some Guys.
“Ever since childhood
Kattau has been imbued with a voice that haunts with its clarity and
range, and an eye that roams the globe in search of contradiction and
hope. Inhabited Woman (independent), her fourth album, is the first to
feature all original work. Her lyrics are playful, inventive, then
suddenly academic, covering topics as quirky as vegetarians gratefully
consuming roadkill and as serious as an environmentalist singing a love
song to a planet betrayed. Her soprano seems to carry a hint of hope into
even the darkest places, like the world of a disposable migrant worker or
an abused housewife.”

She has the best voice in

Colleen Kattau sings with a common passion that makes you believe the
world could be saved by beauty. Charlie King
She is such a bright
spirit, has a powerful voice, and seems to laugh and dance where ever
she goes. Holly Near
The songs are dead on
target, performed beautifully with just the right amount of outrage and
amusement. Kim Ruell, About.com
This is my favorite album
of the past year. You've always been a wonderful performer, and this is
an incredible album. [Side note] I've been collecting recordings of
"Hard Times" for many years, and have always loved Mavis Staples' version
best... but yours is right up there with hers Mayer Shevin
Artists mostly catch my attention thru the tonal qualities of their
voices and the nuances in the manner in which they express their voices
and, of course, in their lyrics. In your case, you have it all plus I
was blessed to actually see you perform live ... which was really cool.
